What is the Bruin Lights Out Process?

Bruin Manufacturing has been dedicated to producing quality plastic components with lean manufacturing techniques since 1949. Bruin’s first automatic / lights out machine was built in 1963 – and is still producing today. Built on a foundation of solid engineering, our lights out production model allows us to meet your needs for quality, time and price.

What does “lights out” refer to?

The term “lights out” refers to the fact that there are little to no humans present during a particular shift, reducing or eliminating the practical need for the lights to be on – as well as HVAC and other systems. But the benefits of lights out manufacturing go far beyond just energy savings. Using automated processes leads to increased product quality with fewer defects, decreased labor costs and quicker completion time.

Lights Out Functionality & Process

More Reliable Components

Our unique lights out manufacturing process reduce both human and machine error. Bruin machines were designed with a goal of reaching zero maintenance in our first 20 years, and we reached it! Bruin has always been dedicated to innovation by designing our own more-reliable components to eliminate downtime. Failing parts are a weak link in any manufacturing process. So, we’ve eliminated or replaced parts that are likely to fail such as vacuum feeders and conveyor belts. Instead, we rely on gravity and creative design to complete the same tasks without the risk of failure.

Reduce Need for Oversight

The reliability of a fully functioning autonomous manufacturing system also allows for minimal human oversight. Only one operator is needed for management and control at the beginning of the molding process. Once production is underway, the machines can operate unattended around the clock.

These unique manufacturing processes allow for increased productivity without an increase in man-hours whenever possible. Our dedication to innovation allows us to pass the cost savings on to you!
